A TEKTITE PENDANT
The egg-shaped black tektite within a gold wire frame, to a fine chain
Tektites are a special type of natural glass. It is produced by the impact of a large meteoroid or comet on the Earth's surface. Surrounding rock is melted during the impact, and is ejected violently away from the impact site, producing a strewn field. The molten rock acquires an aerodynamic shape as it travels through the atmosphere. Tektites come in a variety of colors and shapes, and can contain vesicles or not. Tektites are the driest known minerals, with an average water content of 0.005 This is very unusual, as most if not all of the craters where tektites may have formed were underwater before impact. The Aboriginals in Australia keep Tektites together with other amulets and talismans to protect against evil spirits and black magic.
