Lot Essay

Ghazi al-Din Haydar was the eldest son of Nawwab Sa'adat 'Ali Khan of Awdh. He succeeded his father in AH 1229/1814 AD as Nawwab Vezir. The coronation was in AH 1234/1819 AD when he took the title of Abu'l-Muzaffar Mu'izz al-Din Shah Zaman Ghazi al-Din Haydar Padshah. He died in AH 1243/1827 AD - See T. W. Beale, An Oriental Biographical Dictionary, London, 1894, p. 143.

This manuscript was probably copied between AH 1229/1814 AD and AH 1234/1819 AD because of the titles used in the colophon.

There are two seals, the oval seal reads: Sharaf al-Din Hasayn, the servant of the just, Ghazi Padshah. Most probably an official of Ghazi al-Din Haydar. The square seal reads: Sayyid Fath 'Ali Khan Bahadur Jag, Nasir Tabataba Intizam al-Mulk Muntazim al-Dawla AH 1261/1845 AD, obviously a seal of a high official but unidentified.
