A rare group of eight 19th-Century acid slides,
prepared by J.B. Dancer, numbers 2, 4, 5, 6, 9, 13 and 14, suberic, stearic, margaric, oalmitic, benzoic and azelaic, dinitrophenylic alcohol and daizoamidotoluol, each with name label showing number, JBD, chemical formula and POLAR (WITH) SELENITE 1in. Objective, and a second with details on the source of the sample (from cotton seed oil, sheep's tallow etc), in a small card box with three other slides, other miscellaneous and unused slides in two other small boxes, and a 19th-Century ebonised, oxidised and lacquered-brass UNIVERSAL MICROSCOPE by Smith, Beck & Beck, the square-section barrel on a limb from the main column with rack and pinion focusing, lateral swinging movement with clamp, stage-mounted bull's-eye condensor and concave substage mirror, mounted on a ring foot, with eyepiece extension tube, two regular eyepieces and one polarising, two objectives, two substage attachments and a lieberkuhn attachment, in a mahogany case with carrying handle -- 31.5cm. (13in.) high
