A late 18th-Century English tellurion,
by W.& S. Jones 1794, the central brass sunball surrounded by brass Mercury and ivory Venus balls on arms mounted atop the geared mechanism with platform for terrestrial globe (lacking) over a silvered Zodiac scale, with mount for Moonball (lacking) and silvered lunar phase disc, the pointer to read off the scales on the 12½-inch diameter wooden horizon plate with applied coloured engraved paper labelled A TABLE of the principal AFFECTIONS of the PLANETS Jany:1st:1794. Published as the Act directs by W.& S. Jones and depicting two cherubs with signs reading Designed for the NEW PORTABLE ORRERIES by W. JONES., and Made and Sold by W.& S. JONES 30 Holborn, LONDON, with various astronomical data and circumference scales for degrees of amplitude and azimuth, compass points, houses of the Zodiac and calendar months, the plate supported on three mahogany bun feet, together with detachable ivory and brass turning handle, brass night/day indicator and the orrery attachment with a brass Sunball, six planetaria arms and fourteen subsidiary arms for moons (four moons and one planet ball present), the mahogany box -- 34 x 19 x 34cm.
