A good late Victorian mahogany cased surgical instrument set,
with maker's plaque for DOWN BROS, MAKERS OPPOSITE GUYS HOSPITAL, the instruments with ebony chequered handles and maker's stamp, including a Hey-type saw, a large amputation saw, a knife with serrated edge, two forceps and two elevators, three Liston-type knives, a tourniquet, five smaller knives/needles, two trocars, a cannula, large amputation pincers, two trepanning drill ends and a handle and double-ended forceps, the brass-bound case -- 41 x 20.3 x 9.5cm. (16 1/8 x 8 x 3¾in.)
