With gilt-finished verge movement, chain fusée, finely pierced and engraved balance cock and foot, the white enamel dial with Roman numerals, outer Arabic five minute divisions, plain inner case, the gold and horn outer case finley painted with ferns and vari-coloured butterflies, two watch papers by James McCabe and Rivers to the inside, movement signed

Lot Essay

William Plumley Sr., Ludgate Hill, London, was apprenticed to Lawrence Mace. He became a member of the Clockmaker's Company in 1956 and master in 1779.

Horn cases with painted decoration were very popular in England during the last half of the 18th century and beginning of the 19th century.
