Lot Essay

Bleeding Plant was painted in 1938; the year when Felix Kelly moved from New Zealand to Britain. There is a clear influence of Salvador Dali and de Chirico on this work but their prompt has not managed to overpower the individual expression of Kelly's own personal fantasy.
