Lot Essay

Interwar Paris witnessed a craze for public open-air swimming pools. The famed Piscine Molitor was inaugurated in 1929 by the multiple Olympic swimming champion Johnny Weissmuller and was in use until the autumn of 1989. A fashionable centre for both recreation and sports, the Molitor was the stage for water sports and ice-skating, as well as theatrical performances and fashion shows.
