Lot Essay

Starting in the late 1920s, Bruguière experimented with abstract and figurative forms by cutting and dramatically lighting folded paper shapes. In 1930 he collaborated with the author Oswell Blakeston in making the film Light Rhythms, which expanded his experimental practice by adding moving-light sources and superimposed shapes to heighten the dramatic impact he sought.
