Lot Essay

The Confirmation candidate (Devotions) is based on a composition from 1891 entitled Before Confirmation (Ahtela 231). Two versions were produced in 1938-1939; the first in an edition of fifty and the second in an edition of 70. The presence of the stamp 'Provtryck' on the reverse suggests that the present impression is a proof aside from this second edition.
