SHANG DYNASTY (c.1600-c.1100 BC)
The deep U-shaped body raised on three blade supports and crisply cast in thread relief with two pairs of birds reserved on a leiwen band, one pair confronted on a shallow flange, the other on the 'C'-shaped handle issuing from a bovine mask, the rim rising to a peak opposite the long spout flanked by a pair of posts surmounted by conical caps, with a two-character pictogram cast beneath the handle, with some original bright patina and green encrustation
