Of pear shape with flaring mouth rim, cast on either side with a simplified taotie mask formed by confronting birds, their bodies consisting of leiwen scrolls, a clawed foot and tail feathers, the pedestal foot encircled by a narrow band of 'diagonal scroll and eye' design, the cover decorated with a similar band with a loop handle with mask terminals, the dark grey and olive patina with traces of malachite and earth encrustation
