Lot Essay

Compare the very similarly modelled and decorated figure, slightly larger, from the W. Martin-Hurst collection, illustrated by G. C. Williamson, The Book of Famille Rose, London, 1927, plate LIX (bottom right). A related pair of ladies with candle-holders, of very similar large size to the present lot, is in the Hodroff collection, illustrated by D. S. Howard, The Choice of the Private Trader, London, 1994, no. 307, p. 258.
