Lot Essay

Levi describes this mortar and pestle as extremely rare, having its original lid and pestle. He describes it as similar, but very much smaller than the one in the Pinto Collection in Birmingham, illustrated figure 33 in Edward H. Pinto, Treen and other Wooden Bygones, Bell and Hyman, London 1969.
