A rare Welsh sycamore goblet of large size
Circa 1620
The straight-sided body with double reeded band to the rim, and moulded lower edge, with the owner's initials branded twice to the outer body S.F. or S.R., and once to the inner side, above a steeple foot
7in. (17.8cm.) high; 4¾in. (12cm.) diameter

Lot Essay

Levi describes the present goblet in his book as follows ''..having an interesting flat underside to the bowl, raised on a steeple stem on a circular foot. Interestingly the bowl shape is reminiscent of base metal mortars from the early part of the 17th century.
