A PAIR OF MEISSEN ALLEGORICAL FIGURE GROUPS, 'THE BROKEN BRIDGE' AND 'THE BROKEN EGG'
CIRCA 1880, BLUE CROSSED SWORDS MARKS, INCISED MODEL NOS. F.63 AND F.65, VARIOUS IMPRESSED AND PAINTED NUMERALS, AFTER THE MODELS BY M.V. ACIER
The first modelled with a gallant stooping to support his female companion, a broken bridge and an attendant putto scattering roses before them, the reverse with Cupid lending his own support; the second with a lady standing with her hands crossed at her breast and turning away from a seated older companion, an upturned basket of eggs at her feet and Cupid kneeling before them, the reverse with a putto hiding amongst the flounces of her skirt, each on a rocky mound above an oval stop-fluted base
