Active in both Paris and Berlin, Philippe produced bronze and ivory statuettes which primarily depicted fashionable women and dancers with elongated bodies and sharp-pointed features. His work was produced in Germany by both Rosenthal und Maeder and by Preiss-Kassler. Models stamped RuM can be dated prior to 1929 when Preiss-Kassler acquired that firm. In France, his models were produced and marketed by the LN & JL (Les Nevuex de J. Lehmann) foundry. See B. Catley, Art Deco and Other Figures, 1978, p. 253 for an illustration of this model.
