Enamelled with a scene from La Fable de la Fontaine (La Laitière et le pot au lait), a maiden dressed in a pink and white dress balancing a pail on her head as she climbs over a wooden fence, in the distance the facade of a small town, encircled at the rim by a twisted-rope pattern border reserved with small vignettes, the original erotic subjectmatter on the reverse rubbed off, one saucer repaired, crack and small frits (4)

It has been suggested that this subjectmatter is after a tale of de la Fontaine: La laitière et le pot au lait, although the exact source has not yet been identified, see F.& N. Hervoët et Y. Bruneau, La Porcelaine des Compagnies des Indes a décor Occidental, Paris, 1986, p. 200, nr. 9.19.
