Lot Essay

The Coalbrookdale Iron Company exhibited a pair of torcheres of the same design at the 1862 International Exhibition, London. One of these was illustrated in the Art Journal Catalogue, page 285. The illustration shows that the original model had candelabra fittings and globe shades. The lozenge stamp indicates that this design was first registered by Coalbrookdale on April 29th 1856.
