Lot Essay

W.Priest is recorded as an auctioneer appraiser and undertaker (1837-1840) and a number of pieces are recorded with his stamp dating from about 1800-1850.The labels bearing the Tudor Street address describe the business as a 'Furniture Warehouse'and it is probable, therefore, that he applied his stamp to pieces as a retailer rather than a maker.C.Gilbert,Pictorial Dictionary of Marked London Furniture 1700-1840, Leeds,1996).
