The flower-festooned sideboard-table, with its 'Roman' herm-tapered legs and frieze centred by a shell-fretted cartouche, evoking the nature-deity Venus, reflects the George II 'picturesque' fashion of the late 1750s as illustrated in The Universal System of Household Furniture, 1762 issued by the Golden Square firm of William Ince and John Mayhew.
