Lot Essay

Since 1871 Thomas Jones was a London retailer who advertised "high class fancy goods." Jones had an impressive display at the 1878 Paris Exhibition, showing "fancy articles of every description" including leather goods, cut crystal and glass, and cutlery. It has also been recorded that in the 1870s and 1880s, Jones specialized in retailing figural silver novelties, which included a scent flask in the form of a greyhound, a pepperette in the form of a pug dog, and a hand mirror in the form of a flounder.
