THE CAMERAS WITH WHICH LADY OTTOLINE TOOK SOME OF THE MOST EVOCATIVE LITERARY PORTRAITS OF THE PERIOD, including those collected in Lady Ottoline's Album: Snapshots and Portraits of Her Famous Contemporaries (1976). Ottoline Morrell was a dedicated amateur photographer who recorded on film the extraordinary range of artists, philosophers, writers and aesthetes she knew in her career as a social and literary hostess. The collections of the National Portrait Gallery include more than 1,500 vintage 'snapshot' prints of photographs taken by her between 1908 and 1935, consisting not only of pictures of family and friends, but of mementos of her trips to France, Italy and elsewhere. As well as the many portraits, there are landscapes, city views and photographs of memorable events including George V and Queen Mary passing Morrell's house in Gower Street on their way to lay a foundation stone.
