SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR ON THE FRONT FREE ENDPAPER. Ownership monogram of Ottoline Morrell, subscribed 'May 6th 1927 to MAY 12th', 10 Gower Street', and with extensive notes by her and another reader on rear free endpaper, in addition to pencil markings in the text. Morrell wrote to Woolf about the book on 14 May 1927: 'The Beauty of it is overwhelming -- especially to me the 2d part -- "Time Passes" ... All these pages marked & marked, for they seem to me some of the loveliest pages in English prose.' Woolf replied the following day: 'I am so glad you like parts of the Lighthouse - I accept it all gratefully and humbly. I daresay its flattery, but I like it so much that I swallow it all the same.'
