Lot Essay

Completed in 1936, Dilwara was the first purpose-built troopship launched for seventy years. Designed for 1,731 persons including 209 crew, she could maintain a service speed of 16 knots. Attacked and reported "sunk" by the Italians and later dive-bombed during the evacuation of Greece, Dilwara was not damaged and survived the war. Sold to the Chinese Steam Navigation Co. in the 1960s, she was sold for scrap in 1972.
