Adelaide: Carey and Page for Goodfellow and Hele, 1879. 8vo., 124p. + 11 advertisement leaves, mounted photograph of J. Hide (margins cropped close, occasionally affecting letters and numerals), red half calf by J. Speakman, Liverpool (rubbed at extremities, cloth covers discoloured), original pink printed wrappers bound in, mounted photograph of G.V. Cross on back wrapper (front wrapper chipped). Provenance: Robert Stratten Holmes (signature on title dated Liverpool, 7.10.86) -- H.S. Altham (sold Christie's South Kensington, 2 June 1995, lot 126)

FIRST YEAR OF ISSUE OF THIS RARE SOUTH AUSTRALIAN ALMANACK. Goodfellow and Hele's "Cricket Depot" at 37, King William St., is advertised on both the front wrapper and title-page. On the back wrapper, the outfitter, George Vidgen, announces: "I shall have much pleasure in presenting a 'best flannel' jacket and trousers to the batsman who 'hits the first century' during the coming season on the Oval".
