Over the years he has built up a collection based upon an idiosyncratic, hugely energetic and yet at times very sensitive vision. His home is unlike any other that I have ever visited with a thousand objects flowing and hustling for space both indoors and out and yet mysteriously somehow finding a balance within that energy that creates harmony and order. It was exhilarating, challenging and humming with energy. Just like Dean in fact. Individually his collection is fascinating, consisting of all the treasures that until now he could not bear to be parted with. Collectively it becomes the celebration of an extraordinarily vital life." Monty Don September 2006 Dean Gipson has the eye of an 18th century collector on a Grand Tour. He has built a fantastic private collection of antiques and rare objects, gathered over thirty years and hidden away in his Islington Town house, unseen until this sale. Dean's journey began early in his life, when, at only eight years of age, he worked on the family fruit and vegetable stall, finding himself at early morning markets, he started to find his first treasures. Dean continued collecting as a teenager while touring for six years with Rock and Roll bands. Driving overnight on the tour bus and arriving in the cities at dawn, Dean began to notice crowds of people assembling on the city outskirts in the half light; these were the antique markets of Europe, to which he became a regular visitor. His passion for antiques took him off the Rock and Roll road and his Grand Tour continued. With his drive and energy, unconventional background, and eye for beauty and quality, Dean became known as somewhat of an "enfant terrible of the antique world! As a young man, Dean drove weekly to Europe, gradually building his personal collection while at the same time starting his first shop in Camden Passage, London. The shop continued to thrive throughout the eighties and nineties. He now has shops in Connecticut, USA and Chelsea, London.
