Lot Essay

Marie Hamonet was a resident of Pléneuf, a village on the north coast of Brittany, where the artist stayed in 1918-19. She frequently posed for Gwen John. Although the drawing came from the artist's estate it has no estate number as it was one of a group of pictures purchased outright from the estate by Matthiesens.
