Lot Essay

Frink created a series of four Harbinger Birds in the early 1960s, their strange aggressive stance typical of the unease which seemed to pervade her work. The animals are reduced to an almost abstract form which is neither body or head. In May 1963 Tate Britain acquired a cast of Harbinger Bird IV.
