Lot Essay

These chairs relate to the work of the two foremost chair makers of the Empire period, F.H.G Jacob-Desmalter and P.B Marcion. They shared the huge imperial commissions which included orders for the palaces of Compiègne, Saint-Cloud, Fontainebleau, Bagatelle and Tuileries.
The pattern of the front leg is reminiscent of certain X-shaped stools by Jacob-Desmalter.
