A George II period padouk and mother-of-pearl inlaid games table, decorated with identical foliate cartouches, and attributed to John Channon was sold Christie's London, 9 July, 1992, lot 47.
The 'Elizabethan' ebonised cabinet was possibly conceived around the time of the marriage between Sidney Herbert, 14th Earl of Pembroke, and Lady Beatrix Lambton in 1877. The spiral turned columns would complement pillars in The Front Hall at Wilton House, and the cabinet would have served to display Chinese porcelain.
