The artist became professor of the 'Münchener Akademie' in 1883. In 1886 he became honorary member of the Academy.
In Bruckmanns Lexicon der Münchener Kunst one can read that his pictures are "genauer Naturbeobachtung", and "stimmungsvolle Abbilder der oberbayerischen Landschaft".
He belongs to the so-called "späten Vertreter der Münchener Freilichtmalerei."
