The present lot seems to derive its composition from a lost prototype by Matsys, as part of a diptych, the other wing showing Christ, Salvator Mundi. Compare with the workshop copies in the National Gallery, London (M.J. Friedländer, Early Netherlandish Painting, 1971, VII, p. 12, fig. 5a)
