MICHEL NIELLON

Michel Niellon wines are lauded by the critics. His minute production from low yields, crafted in two extraordinary small cellars, results in sublime wines with limited availability and extremely high prices. His grand cru wines are packed with a broad array of textures and flavors and are a testimony to his skill as a winemaker. Mr. Niellon's line-up of wines includes some true gems such as the powerful and decadent Bâtard-Montrachet from 50+ year old vines and the incredibly profound Chevalier-Montrachet that exhibits brilliant minerality and depth. These wines age remarkably well notwithstanding the forward style they exhibit when young. Michel Niellon wines are a must for any serious collector.

Chevalier-Montrachet--Vintage 1999
Côte de Beaune, Niellon
"Wonderfully intense and a clear step up from the premiers crus with beautifully detailed fruit offering both citrus and minerality merging seamlessly into deep, concentrated flavors of remarkable complexity and a long, intense and compelling finish. There are those who argue that the Bâtard is Niellon's best wine but for my taste, in most vintages it is the Chevalier that impresses me the most. This is slightly riper than the typical Niellon Chevalier but a lovely wine just the same." BH, July 01, 2001
