2 ouvrages en un volume in-4 (203 x 153 mm). Chaque ouvrage avec vignette sur le titre. Nombreuses gravures et diagrammes dans les textes. Vélin ivoire de l'époque à rabats, pièce de titre manuscrite (rares taches).
EDITIONS ORIGINALES EN LATIN. "Descartes's system of physics, in which he devolped his theory of vortices. The work, based on Descartes's then un-published work Le monde, which treated the creation and function of the univers in completely mechanistic terms... His vortical theory allowed him to argue that since the earth is at rest in its surrounding ùedium it remains unmoved, although it, together, with its entire vortex, necessarily circles the sun... It represents the first truly comprehensive to look at the universe in a fundamentally new, mechanistic and non teleological way (Norman, n° 622). Norman note à propos du second ouvrage (Specimina): "The latin edition omits the treatise Géometrie. The Cartesian catch-phrase "Cogito-ergo-sum" first appears in this form in the Latin edition". BEL EXEMPLAIRE, D'UNE GRANDE FRAÎCHEUR ET À GRANDES MARGES. Norman 622-623; Willems 1008;
