The central composition of this tapestry, with the courtly dressed couple gesturing towards each other, closely relates to that of a panel in The Metropolitan Museum of Art (A.S. Cavallo, Medieval Tapestries in The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, 1993, cat. 41, p. 512), depicting The Prodigal Son Offering Jewels to Luxuria and another sold anonymously, Christie's, London, 10 November 2005, lot 120. In each instance, however, the main couple is being presented with a casket of jewels, hinting at the story being told. The nearly identical figure composition of the offered tapestry indicates that the designs for this tapestry formed part of a stock design that would be adapted by each producer to the patron's wishes.
