Lot Essay

This meuble à deux corps displays a highly decorative carving showing strapwork, marks and geometrical designs directly inspired by the plates of the engravers.
The structure of this meuble à deux corps is typical of the French cabinet-making in the 16th Century; the cushion-shaped frieze is an elegant detail which appears only on important pieces, such as the meuble à deux corps illustrated in J. Boccador, Le Mobilier Franâis du Moyen Age à la Renaissance, Saint-Rémy-en-l'Eau, 1988, p.189.
