The china-table, conceived in the George III Roman altar-tripod fashion, has reed-banded and antique-fluted pilasters raised on ribbon-framed, triumphal-arched and Vitruvian wave-scrolled 'claws'. While its lacy apron-rail is fretted in a gothic manner, its pattern also relates to that of a Chinese table in William Chambers, Designs of Chinese Buildings, Furniture, Dresses etc., 1757. The large angle brackets relate to those seen on a mahogany dressing-table, supplied to Charles, 2nd Marquess of Rockingham (d. 1782) for Wentworth Woodhouse and attributed to Wright and Elwick (sold from the Wentworth sale, Christie's, London, 8 July 1998, lot 63). The elongated quatrefoils in the frieze are also a decorative element seen on furniture by Wright and Elwick. See also lots 10 & 164 in this sale.
