With a curved toprail above a caned back and seat, with solid scrolled arms, on tapering reeded legs with later brass caps and castors stamped 'HUXLEY PATENT', with brown leather squab cushion, the underside of the chair with a tooled 'B' mark

Lot Essay

A comparable chair, with similar paterae and curved back, though without reeding to the legs, was sold anonymously, Sotheby's, London, 17 July 1998, lot 272.
A chair with a similar reeeded leg design, formerly in the possession of M. Harris & Sons, is illustrated in M. Jourdain, Regency Furniture, London, 1965, rev. ed., fig. 95, p. 54.
