[ERASMUS, Desiderius (?1466-1536). The first [Second] Tome or Volume of the Paraphrase of Erasmus upon the Epistles. London: E. Whitchurche, 1548-49]. 2 volumes bound in one, 2° (279 x 195mm). Black letter, woodcut initials and woodcut illustration on verso of final leaf (lacking titles but first supplied in manuscript, some marginal worming at the front and more general scattered worming towards the end, small rusthole in D6, stain to aav affecting an initial, blank corner of 4B2 torn away, hole in 4F1 which is also browned, corner of 3C5 torn away affecting a few letters, a few leaves lightly browned). Contemporary calf (rather worn, joints split). Provenance: early annotation on final leaf -- John Belp, 1764 & Ed Lushington (signatures on front free endpaper) -- Paul Howard Beves (ex-libris sticker). STC 2854.
