Small woodcut device on title, woodcut diagrams in the text, one full-page, 3 folding printed tables (lacks the initial blank, title and last pages dustsoiled, top fore-corner of first 2 and last 4 leaves repaired with no loss, short tear in first table, some discolouration and waterstaining). Early 19th-century half calf (a little rubbed). Provenance: pencilled presentation inscription on an endpaper, dated 1859, from Walter Akeroyd, a Preston bookseller, to John Jackson -- From the Library of John Jackson (1793-1875) of Academy Place, Warrington (bookplate). Sixth edition - the first appeared in 1577 - of this practical, popular guide, largely for the amateur surveyor, praised by John Norden in his The Surveiors Dialogue, 1610. STC 15420.
