D'ANNUNZIO, Gabriele (1863-1938). Autograph manuscript, n.d., speech addressed to the Roman people, referring to a procession on the preceding day, 6 pages, large 4to, individually mounted.

A typically theatrical and impassioned speech, comparing the efforts of the modern Romans with their classical forbears, 'Benedette le madri romane ch'io vidi ieri ... portare su le braccia i loro figli!', referring contemptuously to the supporters of his rival the premier Giovanni Giolitti ('la canaglia giolittesca') and urging them on to greater efforts for the glorious future: 'Viva l'esercito! Viva l'esercito della più grande Italia! Viva l'esercito della liberazione!'.
