Lot Essay

The idea of visiting Greece had long excited Lear. He arrived in Athens from the Ionian Isalnds on 2 June 1848. He left Greece at the end of July and moved onto Turkey, Albania, Egypt and Sinai and the following March and April he travelled back through the Peloponnese.
