Lot Essay

Goodwin visited Egypt twice; once in 1876 and again in 1909. On both visits the mosque of the Citadel in Cairo was an inspiration and Goodwin exhibited views of it on a number of occasions. In 1901 Goodwin exhibited four views of Cairo, one entitled The Citadel Cairo which may be the present drawing.
