This gouache is an original design for an invitation to the opening of Dalí's exhibition Dream of Venus, at the New York World's Fair on 15 June 1939. The actual invitation is illustrated in R. Descharnes and G. Neret, Dalí 1904-1946, Cologne, 1994, no. 712, p. 230.
