8° (194 x 150 mm). With 7-page catalogue. 16 lithographed plates, some of these in colour, 2 etched illustrations, and 3 letterpress illustrations, by Vladimir and David Burlyuk. (Fore-margin of title repaired, occasional soiling). Original wrappers, printed in red and black (rebacked, wear to corners, soiling). Provenance: contemporary reader (signature on front cover) -- another reader (signature, dated May 1934) -- bookseller (stamp on inside back cover).
FIRST EDITION of this early Russian Futurist publication, edited by Shershenevich, and with contributions from the movement's key authors and artists. Benedikt Livshits remarked that this group, which adopted the name Gileya [Hylaea] formed 'the intersection of those co-ordinates which brought forth the movement in Russian poetry and painting called Futurism' (The Russian Avant-Garde Book, p.37). The plates are 'profoundly sophisticated and informed adaptations of the central principles and devices of Scythian expression' (idem). The Russian Avant-Garde Book 19, ill. p.64; Hellyer 79.
