4° (247 x 185mm). 8 original drawings, 6 coloured aquatint plates and 58 illustrations in text, repeated in 64 supplementary plates, all by Yakovlev. Dark brown morocco signed by H. Blanchetière, with morocco doublure, watered silk and marbled endpapers, gilt edges, original printed wrappers bound in, slipcase (spine slightly faded).

WITH 8 ORIGINAL DRAWINGS BY YAKOVLEV, and an extra suite of plates. N° 10 OF ONLY 15 DELUXE COPIES. The drawings are originals for the published version, one of these bearing manuscript setting instructions. Maran's celebrated work is the first novel in French criticizing living conditions in the African colonies, and received the Goncourt prize in 1921, two years after Proust. Batouala anticipates the work of younger writers, inckluding Senghor and Césaire.
