Mathematischer Atlas, in welchem auf 60 Tabellen .... Augsburg: J.A. Pfeffel, [1745]. Oblong 2° (330 x 470mm). Engraved allegorical title by I.G. Pinz after I.W. Baumgartner and 60 engraved plates, the majority hand-coloured, comprising maps, plans and diagrams. 18th-century half calf with papered boards, spine with red morocco lettering piece (extremities rubbed, upper cover with loss to paper at centre).
Mayer's illustrated survey of arithmetic, geometry, trigonometry and analysis, applied to the practical sciences. The plates show the influence of the work of Christian von Wolff, whose work Anfangs-Gründe aller mathematischen Wissenschaften displays a similar choice of subjects, which include mechanics, optics, astronomy, geography, chronology, gnomonics, pyrotechnics, and military and civil architecture. This is Mayer's second work, published by the firm of Johann Andreas Pfeffel, for which he was working from 1744 to 1746. BL C.29.f.9.
