Britannia insvlae qvae nvne Angliae et Scotiae regna continent cvm Hibernia adiacente nova descriptio. Rome: Michele Tramezzino, 1558. Engraved map of the British Isles by Sebastiano di Ré, 422 x 550mm, trimmed with original extended margins (Some discolouration to centre and upper centre of map.)
A fine example of an important map of the British Isles, skillfully engraved by Sebastiano di Ré, who was at the time employed at the Rome workshop of Michele Tramezzino and his older brother Francesco. This edition is very faithful to Lily's 1546 first state, and like the original is oriented east-west. Shirley:1991 no.63, Tooley:1939 no.271, Woodward:1996 watermark 209.
