An important and highly decorative map of northern Europe, skilfully engraved by Jacob Bos at the cartographer's Venice workshop. Centred on a compass rose placed on Denmark, the image embraces southern Sweden and Norway, and covers in great detail, most of the coastlines of the North and Baltic Seas. The seas are enlivened by ships and fantastic and diverse sea monsters. Significantly, this map is the earliest surviving impression of Cornelius Anthoniszoon's important chart of the Baltic, the Caerte van Oostlant of 1543. Karrow no.2, Tooley:1939, no.40
